“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience – among whom we all once lived…”
When we humans get wrapped up in focusing on negative external happenings, our brains do not have capacity to process the signals from the LORD at work through our bodies until they are so loud they can’t be ignored.
If you are focused on the negative news coming from social media or your TV, constantly offended and bitter about what someone did to you, or bemoaning your latest unfair experience, you often don’t realize the stress you are putting yourself through until you discover some unexpected ailment (fatigue, an ulcer, panic attacks, etc.).
Instead, we need to change our thinking – find the blessing in the midst of the difficult situation. Focus on God’s gift and provision in the midst of the chaotic news from the outside world.
This change of thinking is repentance (metanoia in Greek), a paradigm shift in our minds, our habits, and our hearts in order to start moving toward God who gives us wellness that flows from our soul. While the world can offer many things that will start the journey and can outwardly bring the appearance of healing and transformation, they can never reach the depths of our hearts and our souls where the real transformation needs to take place. The worldly, outward changes can create respectable, pretty zombies.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved..”
This gift transformed us into the truly-alive. We are saved from a fate that we had no power to alter. No matter how smart we become, how rich we are, how popular, how well-behaved, we have no power to transform ourselves from death to life. We can dress ourselves up so we are not as scary a zombie or better looking, but we remain the living-dead. Only the blood of Jesus Christ, infused with the power of His resurrection from the dead, has the ability to alter our actual state.
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, … our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession …”
God’s gift transforms our state of being in a way that entrusts us with His power. We can now play a part in the transformation of other living-dead when we choose to BeLED by Jesus and His Holy Spirit, doing the will of the Father. May you find grace and peace this Christmas season as you pray for the redemption of the living-dead and salvation from the Zombie Apocalypse.
